Shot taken on 8th July, 2017 – second day of our Sorrento holiday.
Top shot is the façade of the Royal Palace in Naples. Bottom shot is one of the halls of the palace.
Christine and I visited the palace while all the rest of the group went touring the shopping area during some free time we had after our guided tour of Naples. I hate shopping and do not regret our decision.
The Royal Palace of Naples was one of the four residences near Naples used by the Bourbon Kings during their rule of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (1734-1860) of which Malta formed part. It was completed in 1644 but along the years it was renovated or remodelled several times.
The statues along the ground floor of the façade show different kings who ruled the kingdom ending with Joachim Murat who was the husband of Napoleon Bonaparte’s younger sister, Caroline and also Marshal of France and Admiral of France.
Thank you so much for looking and for the comments and fav’s on yesterday’s picture.
The somewhat austere - but beautiful - appearance of the exterior gives nothing away of the sumptuousness of the interior decor. The diptych brings the contrast out perfectly. Nicely done.
A wise decision Dione -- shopping can be achieved anywhere but the beauty of this Royal Palace can only be achieved when in Naples ! -- A lovely diptych
Wow. Amazing. Beautiful building, interior and fav. capture . If it was in my neighbourhoud I would pay it a visit .
