The man in the statue must be Christopher Colombus, the man who discovered America. And he is why we came here – Palo de la Frontera, a place we ( and most other Maltese) had never heard of before. And I found it by chance while searching on the internet for interesting places to visit and which we hadn’t been to before.
And the place is the Monasterio de La Rábida which has witnessed one of the most significant events in the history of humanity; the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. La Rábida is where Columbus stayed between 1491-92 waiting for financial backing from the Catholic Monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella.
I took the two shots in this picture before we even reached the monastery
because they were very significant to what we would see later.
