Every parish that organizes a Good Friday procession makes sure that it has men dressed like Roman soldiers included. At the Ħal-Għaxaq procession there were quite a number of them. Some of the soldiers are more dressed like centurions or higher –grade officers with their shiny brass-plated armour than the common soldiers they represent. Watching them brings a smile on my face and I imagine them going into battle with all that shining armour. But that is part of the local tradition and it is very attractive for those who choose to visit.
Thank you very much for your views, comments and fav's. Much appreciated.
Those are very impressive costumes! Do they provide their own or does the parish have them in storage? The collage really does a nice job of showing off the pagaentry.
Great photos! I smiled at them, too. Catholic schools here often do a Living Stations of the Cross during Holy Week. My grandson Brandon, a big football player, always played the part of a Roman soldier.
what elaborate costumes! Would be wonderful to see all this!
