More shots taken ten days ago when I drove to Mġarr area which is mostly an agricultural hub. Crops do not need shelter to grow in Malta because we have no frost and no snow and we have sunshine most of the year but farmers in this area make use of glass (transparent plastic) houses to bring their crops to maturity earlier in the season in order to compete with farmers in the south-east of Malta where the sun appears earlier than the west and the crops reach maturity earlier – at least this is my opinion. Other reasons may be to shelter the crops from the wind or from birds and insects. Our fields are small but the soil is very fertile for growing vegetables of all sorts.
Thank you for your looks, comments and fav's.
In my teenage years we lived next to a nursery that grew Carnations. They used Poly tunnel to grow the flowers for all of the reasons that you have stated above. Great capture and thank you for the memories.
