Out for a little drive on quiet roads we spotted the railway bridge near Croy. It looks quite awesome with all its arches.....wonder how many passengers have crossed this way travelling south from Inverness....
or north to Inverness I suppose!
There is a Croy near us and at first I thought, how could I have missed a bridge like that but I presume there is another Croy up north! Quite a spectacle! I like the subdued colours of the season too.
It does look vaguely like the viaduct near Settle that was used in the Harry Potter books except that is on a curve ! Could be summer in this photo as that field looks brown !
This bridge carries the mainline railway over the river Nairn from Inverness to Perth, Edinburgh, Glagow and London.
The bridge is 600 metres long and built entirely from red sandstone quarried from less than two miles away. It is composed of 28 arches of a 15 metre span with a main arch having a span of 30 metres. The tallest arch is 40 metres above the river.
It was completed in 1898. It is an architectural work of art.
I keep meaning to take that one too. We used to live at Culloden, and also have been to the Caravan and Camping site there a few times since we moved away, and still have not managed it...

Really delighted this worked so well! It was SOOC and didn't see the colours properly until we got home. And I found out a bit more about it!
