The River Lossie originates in the hills above Dallas, in Moray, and has its source 400 meters above sea-level. It enters the sea at Lossiemouth on the Moray Firth. By the time it moves through Elgin its rate of flow, in normal conditions, is best described as very slow. The gradient between Elgin and Lossiemouth is almost imperceptible with a total fall of less than 5 metres.
There have been some very serious floods in this area. Johnstons of Elgin (established1797) has traded from its present site on the banks of the River Lossie. Catastrophic flooding devastated the mill in 1997 shortly after the company celebrated its bicentenary.
Beautifully framed Sallie, it really adds to this lovely picture ! I feel I know the area as the names sound so familiar but haven't been back for years.
