Used to be a place where the sailors satisfied all needs. Thirst and loneliness. It wasn't always such a nice area to hang in. The city on purpose tried to clean it up by using a memorial anchor and painting the buildings and eventually inviting ships in for the people to see/ visit. This helped and it is now the most famous port in Copenhagen. Very pretty and busy area of Copenhagen.
