The pohutukawas in bloom mean that the holiday season is upon us in New Zealand. But, after much rain last week (thanks to a nasty cyclone), many of them lost their blooms and were back to just regular green trees - including the ones in my yard. So, I was really pleased to see a few trees still flowering away down at the local town basin.
My favorite parts of the photo: that bee is really going for it(!), the shadows from the petals on the leaves, and in the top left is another bee flying in for a landing.
