A little tribute to my great grandfather, Elijah Hewitt, for Remembrance Day.

He came home without a scratch on him, but died at the age of 32 of tuberculosis. He left behind my grandmother and her twin sister, who were only two years of age, as well as the rest of her older sisters.

"Hewitt, E., Corpl., Lancashire Fusiliers. Volunteering in May 1915, he crossed to France in October of that year and took part in the fighting at Albert, Vimy Ridge and the Somme. He was also in action in many other engagements of importance, including those at Arras, Messines, Ypres, Cambrai, St. Quentin and the leading operations of the 1918 Offensives. On his return home in September 1919, he was demobilised, holding the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals."

Also pictured is the Arras badge he was awarded, which is being hoarded by a family member in England.
