...and just like that, she's got a new instrument to learn for field band.
The mellophone is what French horn players march with. Like a big trumpet, basically, but in the same key and range as a horn.
I did field band in 11th & 12th grades, so the fact that she can start as an incoming 7th grader kind of floors me. This fall is going to be a huge transition for her, into a new school with a much busier schedule, but she's insisting that she can handle it - and I'm sure she can. (Me, on the other hand? I'm going to need more coffee. And the ability to be in several places at once.)

Here they start High School (and therefor Marching Band if they wish) in 9th grade. And I'm sure you'll manage to be in several places at once!
