Luminaria by sarahsthreads

Luminaria

Oldest has participated in Relay for Life with a team from her school for three years in a row now. This is the first year I was able to be there for the luminaria lighting and ceremony, and the silent laps around the track. It was both beautiful and devastatingly sad. I had both my girls with me, and my middle one with the big heart wept silently the entire time. Nothing "adult" goes over her head, and loss is her biggest fear. We stopped for a moment for her to gather herself, and I took a couple of quick shots of the lines of candles - from the "wrong" side, to preserve the privacy of names. The little lights in the background are walkers, carrying the light of hope in the form of glow sticks.

For all those who are fighting cancer now, or supporting a loved one in their fight, or mourning the loss of a loved one...we support you. We grieve with you. We pray with you that a cure can be found. Our silent tears on our walk and the money that we donated can never be enough, but together with all of those who walked, here and at other events...maybe added up, it can be.
