Today is the day before our big standardized testing starts and to get the kids and staff fired up and looking at this as a chance to show what we know and not dreading it as something that is out to defeat them, we had a big pep rally at school. Kids and teachers dressed up in all sorts of wacky ways to get into the spirit. My team was a cross of 80s and nerdy and we did a skit that I wrote where we got into a fight about who was the best dancer and ended in a three way dance off to a Gonna Make You Sweat/U Can't Touch This/Ice Ice Baby Mix I did and judged by student applause. The kids LOVED it! They always think we are crazy but today they were sure. There was also a teacher versus kids relay race, karaoke, a basketball shoot out, and a pie in the face contest. The younger grades also performed for the grades that are testing (only 3rd-5th tests)...nothing is cuter than 2nd grades singing Ain't No Mountain High Enough.
Part of the incentive for the teachers to participate was a dress down pass for the rest of the year!!! That means jeans, people! Every day until June 7th!!!!!! My team would have participated regardless but that was our call to go way above and beyond spirit wise. We did cheers for all of our 3-5 kids as they walked in the building. No other grade level could top our spirit for sure so hopefully we the announcement will come soon telling us that we have our pass.
It was an exhausting and fun day. We laughed and had a nice break before we come in tomorrow and rock that test! Prayers please, for my little baby test takers and their teachers, who will be nervously awaiting their scores to see if they took their time and paid attention or became overwhelmed and just started filling in bubbles at random. Hopefully, it is the former.

What a fun project, and I'm sure the kids loved it! You look like you're having a great time, too, and that's what we want these young children to have... a FUN teacher. They learn better with good examples to follow. Great job in this collage, too, Sara. It makes me smile. :-)))

HA! This is awesome! What a great idea to keep it all in perspective for the kids. Awww, to be able to dress down! I can NOT wait until our day comes

I wonder which is worst? US Standardized testing or the crazy BS the British do with assessments and documentation? I am sure both were invented to keep teachers insane!
