I'm so used to thinking "tall" with lighthouses that this one surprised me. Built in 1855 on the Potomac River in Alexandria, Virginia, this lighthouse was once home to a keeper who lived in this structure with his wife and 11 of his 14 children... And all of this without wifi ;-)
Often, river lighthouses take a very different form as the dangers they are warning of tend to be very local so the light doesn't need a long throw - this is a great example.
That could account for the 14 children?? How interesting to see the differences of a river guarding lighthouse - never really thought about that. Another thing learned!
