Today I decided to share something not common to most 365 members. This poster/board was inside a shop where we bought groceries. We did not have loads shedding for more than a month but it started last night again. No electricity in a certain areas in the city and times differ to each erea. It last usually 2 1/2 hours. It is so frustrating!
I've never come across that phrase, I take it from the context that its power cuts? Not something we've had here for some years ( touch wood, fingers crossed...)
@anna45 Yes power cuts. They are joking here. Only in South Africa you get load shedding and car guards. Car guards are people watching your car and you pay them a fee. Funny enough cars still get stolen.
@aikimomm No the power will go on like this for quite a while it seems. Also do have water restrictions here now. Although spring all the plants still still dead due to a lack of rain/water. We are not allowed to water plants or wash cars. Cars to be washed with one bucket of water. Tell me how do you do that?
How well I remember this over here. So frustrating you can't do the jobs you planned so think you'll do something else and then remember that needs electricity as well!!
Why does it happen @sdutoit ? When I was a child there would be a lot of power cuts where lights and electric went off and this was because of coal miners striking.
@kwiksilver We also did not have any. A part of the city had on Monday night. I bought a solar light the other day with which you can charge your cell phone to. The light burned for 24 hours straight. I checked it on Monday. Not bad. With the solar panel in the window charging at all times you do have at least one light available immediately.
Definitely not something you see much here in America. People freak out when the electricity even blinks off and they can't get on the internet or watch TV, or pay with their credit card at the grocery store (or even check out for that matter, as all of it requires electricity).
Wow...sorry to hear you are having this experience. We can experience this when hurricanes go through. About 10 years ago after Hurricane Rita went up the border between Texas and Louisiana and damaged the electrical system our power would be cut off for an hour or two each day for about a month or two. After Hurricane Ike in 2008 our power was out for 4 days and some areas were out for 3-4 weeks.
