365 loadshedding

Today I decided to share something not common to most 365 members. This poster/board was inside a shop where we bought groceries. We did not have loads shedding for more than a month but it started last night again. No electricity in a certain areas in the city and times differ to each erea. It last usually 2 1/2 hours. It is so frustrating!
Having to put up with that would be really difficult, I think.

Yes it is. Specially if the lights go out when dark you do have to spark to get solar lights going.

I've never come across that phrase, I take it from the context that its power cuts? Not something we've had here for some years ( touch wood, fingers crossed...)

Clever!

@anna45 Yes power cuts. They are joking here. Only in South Africa you get load shedding and car guards. Car guards are people watching your car and you pay them a fee. Funny enough cars still get stolen.

Definitely not something I have ever heard of

i sort of worked out what the poster was about and then read the thread. not much fun then at the moment with power cuts

Load shedding... Never heard of that before.. Thanks to the thread I know what it means now.

@bkbinthecity Yes only in South Africa I suppose!
September 16th, 2015
@phil_howcroft Yes this seems not to be the end of it. Likely to continue for a few years the say.

Wow. I experienced that when living in Mexico. Sometimes the water would go off randomly as well. Hope your power has returned by now.
September 16th, 2015
@aikimomm No the power will go on like this for quite a while it seems. Also do have water restrictions here now. Although spring all the plants still still dead due to a lack of rain/water. We are not allowed to water plants or wash cars. Cars to be washed with one bucket of water. Tell me how do you do that?
September 16th, 2015
@sdutoit I think you don't -- just leave it dirty..... Hang in there.
September 16th, 2015
Just trying to figure out. What is the time where you are? Here 6:49 AM

Interesting pic. I wasn't sure what 'load shedding' meant until I read your caption - I thought it was about people not dropping their groceries!
September 16th, 2015
I thought that was slang phrase for 'clearance sale'.
September 16th, 2015
How well I remember this over here. So frustrating you can't do the jobs you planned so think you'll do something else and then remember that needs electricity as well!!
September 16th, 2015
What a major inconvenience to have your power cut off, and at random times, which would make it impossible to plan chores and activities.
September 16th, 2015
Very interesting, Sylvia.
September 16th, 2015
This sounds so frustrating!
September 16th, 2015
@sangwann Dione this is the best I heard! Wish we could have a clearance sale of them casing it!
September 16th, 2015
Why does it happen @sdutoit ? When I was a child there would be a lot of power cuts where lights and electric went off and this was because of coal miners striking.
September 16th, 2015
Oh no! Don't tell me it's starting again! We haven't had any for at least a month ... ever since I bought some Consol solar lighting jars! haha!
September 16th, 2015
@kwiksilver We also did not have any. A part of the city had on Monday night. I bought a solar light the other day with which you can charge your cell phone to. The light burned for 24 hours straight. I checked it on Monday. Not bad. With the solar panel in the window charging at all times you do have at least one light available immediately.

@stephanies Powe stations not up to delivering enough electricity due to lack of maintenance and planning I suppose.
September 17th, 2015
Ai tog!
September 17th, 2015
Definitely not something you see much here in America. People freak out when the electricity even blinks off and they can't get on the internet or watch TV, or pay with their credit card at the grocery store (or even check out for that matter, as all of it requires electricity).
September 17th, 2015
@moya Moya jou can say ai tog again!
September 17th, 2015
@homeschoolmom Good for you. This irritates me.
September 17th, 2015
Wow...sorry to hear you are having this experience. We can experience this when hurricanes go through. About 10 years ago after Hurricane Rita went up the border between Texas and Louisiana and damaged the electrical system our power would be cut off for an hour or two each day for about a month or two. After Hurricane Ike in 2008 our power was out for 4 days and some areas were out for 3-4 weeks.

Great photo.

we are spoiled here in America and only in natural disasters do we lose electricity. I feel for you
