No photos today. Been sitting at the casualty the entire day with my mother before she was admitted late this afternoon. So here is another photo from yesterday's baptism.
The actual moment when the minister first laid his hands on baby Rushaan. Pity I cut off baby's hand - that is what comes with experience ... I should have made space to take one step back to have a bit more space (using nifty fifty so only zoom available is with my feet). Also I had set aperture to f1.8 to let in max light, but in fact I needed more depth of field to get both the minister's hands in focus. Something else that comes with experience. I will do a bit of work on the background to make it more blurry and get rid of the bright pink tie of the daddy just behind as I find that very distracting.
It's beautiful! You are so hard on yourself Desi!! I don't think the background needs more blurring, nor do o think both hands need to be in focus, I agree that the pink could go, it's a really stunning capture.
I agree about the pink tie, but other than that I think this is just wonderful. You captured a very special moment. I love how the baby's hand is resting on the minister's wrist. Just precious! I have a nifty 50 also. I often have the depth of field not quite right. It does take practice, but this is beautiful.
I can't really advise as I shoot on Auto - but I do think more DOF for the minister's hand - back one doesn't matter, but the front one isn't fully in focus, nor is the baby's hand, nor her head. I think we are all prone to overanalyse: at first view this was a wonderful study. If it forms part of a portfolio, then it's the cumulative effect which will linger. I think parents are lucky to have such a conscientious freetographer!
