Managed to zoom in and crop down to get a reasonable photo of a heron this morning whilst walking the dogs. Max and Charlie have become so good now, and seldom pull and tug when I tell them I want to take a photo!
@narayani Thank you. Pity about the house roof and chimney in the background, but I guess that is what happens when I grab opportune shots instead of sitting somewhere to plan a better background!
@meotzi Aaah thanks Caryn. That is one way of rationalizing it! I also have a new camera and need to learn to quickly adjust settings - if I took the time to change my aperture I might have had a better background (but no heron - he stretched out and took off right after this shot. LOL)
In a perfect world maybe there wouldn’t be rooftops or chimneys but the detail is so fabulous and this, I didn’t even notice. Besides I think it’s interesting to show how close to civilization the heron lives.
@s4sayer Thanks Margo. Wedding only happens 28th June. I am taking photos every day of something - mostly people or parts of people to just try and stay in practice getting focus and exposure right in various weather conditions. Need to also start some indoor practice as well if possible, and practice with my flash in case the light is poor on that day
@beckyk365 Thanks Becky. We have a wealth of birds very close, so if I was dedicated to bird photography I am sure I could stake out an area and get birds with sky or reeds as backgrounds.
@bf2016 Thanks Barbara. I'm impressed at how far Max and Charlie have come since I first got them, that I can take photos while holding them on leads. In the beginning they just wanted to chase birds or anything that moved. ... Now they will usually sit reasonably still when I tell them to.
BTW how did the wedding shoot go?
