@amyamoeba@ruthmouch@lisjam1 Thank you all very much. There is a Greenfinch in my main album, but I think I may swap them around!! Thank you fo rthe fave Lisa, I thought today may be my first day without a fave for nearly 2 months, but no, thanks to you :))
fantastic composition with the verticals. I've got a feeder full of nyger seed outside my kitchen window. Goldfinches are supposed to love them. Swarms of goldfinches in the garden but they wont go anywhere near the feeder
Richard, yes I thougt so too, so I swapped the Greenfinch and Goldfinch shots around!
Jan, Yes you are right, I have always been taught that Goldies love Nyger seeds, but they make a heck of a mess, so I buy sunflower hearts from CJ Bird foods, along with may other things. I could sit and watch the birds in the garden all day!!
Thak you so much Danny, I am thrilled with your comment. It was shot through a window from 30 ft or so away on my 500mm lens, so I am overjoyed with the focus quality. I think the white sky helps!!
A very colourful little chap! he looks great against the white. They definitely do love the niger seeds and I can testify to the mess they make eating them!
@tishpics Thanks Pat, Its strange, if I put a feeder of Niger seeds out and a feeder of sunflower hearts, the Goldies will always got for the sunflower seeds. I end up throwing the niger seeds when the feeder goes mouldy!
Lovely placement of everything here Sean & the little bird is perched so beautifully between those branches...it all looks very well composed!!!! A fave!
@fannyb I think you are right on both counts nudge, nudge, wink, wink!! I altered my focal point to bottom right 3rd intersection after getting the Greenfinch, so on this occasion I can happily say, I meant it!!
@sparkle Aww, thanks Juliette. I have loved these since being a small boy and going for long walks in the woods with my uncle and his dog. I regularly have a dozen or so in the garden at once and could watch them all day.
@seanoneill - lucky you.... no day without a fav hmm?! I have loads of those and then three buses come along at once so to speak!! Nice high key of this little goldfinch.... think I'll have to get some seeds for my birdfeeder too! We've had cats for years and so never used to encourage birds into the garden in case they became dinner!
@jackie8 I really want that day to come around Jackie to take the pressure off, but it will happen when it happens!!! We have a cat, just make sure the cat has a collar with a bell and the feeders are high enough! Glad you like :)
Excellent - I can't believe you got this with the finch looking at you and so perfectly composed ... unless it's stuffed and in a studio?! Fav in milliseconds!
@filsie65@samr@ladyjane@michaelelliott@grizzlysghost@bonnielark@ozziehoffy Thank you all for great comments and favs, which managed to get me on the PP this morning. Phil, definitely not stuffed, but as a believer in the conspiracy theory, perhaps my neighbours have a radio controlled Goldfinch that they are teasing me with?
@gooner46 Thank Chris, I feel rather lucky to have got it after getting a Greenfinch inanother shot and then altering my focal point and hoping to get a Goldfinch!
Oooh, really interesting shot. The composition is clever and the starkness of your exposure really highlights the colours of the bird. I'll add my fav. Nice to be back viewing your fab shots again Sean!
Oh Sean, I don't know how I missed this but so glad I found it! Wonderful in its simplicity - this is the kind of photography I love. Because you don't see all the fine detail of the bird, it is an absolute work of art and totally original. Congrats. on the top 20 too!
@24atlantic Thankyou so much Megan, I take that as real praise from one of the people on 365 who could grace the pages of National Geographic with some of their work.
I am so happy that this is top 20!!! It's just gorgeous, love how the bird seems to be painted.....and the vertical twigs just make the composition so appealing!!! Congrats...well deserved!
Richard, yes I thougt so too, so I swapped the Greenfinch and Goldfinch shots around!
