Starling in a tree by seanoneill

Starling in a tree

A shot of one of our local flock of starlings sat on sentry duty in our Rowan Tree.

I have cross processed this to create the lilac background, in an effort to make it look a bit like a painting, and different to my other shots from earlier in the week. I appreciate that this processing may divide opinion.

I have a busy afternoon of meetings and fetching the kids for team haircuts, before a night in watching DVDs with them as there is rather a large dumping of snow threatened this evening!

Fabulous cross-processing and composition, Sean. Love the negative space. Quite a lovely image.

I think the background enhances the colours on the starling which you have captured in the light.

I've been loving your bird shots but not sure of the colour on this one.

I am a fan of negative space, so the composition and graphic approach work well for me. But, being somewhat of a traditionalist, I would like some variation of blue, even an unrealistic blue, in the sky.

His back feathers really shine out beautifully - if that's the effect of the processing then it gets my vote! I just imagined it as a twilight shot... :)
