New Covert in Snow by seanoneill

New Covert in Snow

A wonderful day today for so many reasons.

Overarching all these reasons is that my camera was with me all day, and I probably have 100 shots worthy of posting!!

This morning I practised being a modern man, and washed the school uniform, before heading out for a walk in the woods around Fox Hill. I was rewarded with my first ever sighting of our local Kingfisher flying along Kingston Brook. I have lived here 12 years and never seen it so I am still off the scale excited.

Then I drove over to New Covert with the boys to get some snow shots before the rain came and washed it all away. In about 10 minutes the sky changed completely from like this to having a lot of blue with a pinky lilac hue to the clouds. You will probably get to see the latter another day!

Here is a previous shot of New Covert which has featured quite a bit in my project in recent months.

Then Sam, Ben and I took the train to Leicester to see Leicester Tigers play Wasps at rugby, a game that they won 34 points to 8. Very enjoyable indeed and some great action shots were secured!

Then it was back to Hathern for a lovely evening with my inlaws who cooked us a very nice roast dinner.

So, a very contented 3 of us returned home in time for a nice phone call from Rebecca, and the lads are tucked up in bed while I mess about with my photos.

Worth viewing large I think.
cool shot!

January 27th, 2013
@lisjam1 Thanks Lisa, well I do hope that you get it sometime soon, tag me when you do :))
January 27th, 2013
I really like the cool simplicity of this. There's such little contrast between the blue and white, and the tree sets it all off. It makes me happy. Fav!! Glad you had a great day!
January 27th, 2013
@rockinrobyn Thank you Robyn, When I saw this on screen earlier I was rather pleased with the simplicity and the contrast, so am delighted that you have seen these things too :)
January 27th, 2013
Beautiful... love that most delicate blush of cyan in the sky....

Deb
Beautiful photo! :-)
January 27th, 2013
Beautiful, minimal photo, a bit in the style of @still_beachradish, love the contrast! No snow out there today is there Sean? Ours has all washed away during the night. Sounds like a perfect day yesterday, it's so good when we have a succesful photographic session and to spend it with your boys too - heaven! Do you 'Flickr', I put a few photos on there last year, but don't find it as friendly as here!

Stunning capture. Love the softness and the very subtle tones. Sounds like you had a wonderful day. Can't wait to see some of the 100 photos you captured. FAV!

January 27th, 2013
Nice, definitely a bit like a Kenna. Have you tried this in black and white?
January 27th, 2013
Love the simplicity of the composition. So effective.
January 27th, 2013
@automaticslim I have and iot looks great, it will be posted in the next couple of days. I've been umming and aahing over buying Silver Efex Pro all weekend so have been hanging off psoting this.
January 27th, 2013
Bet it looks completely different if you decompose to the three channels ...

Silver Efex Pro does look very good, it's a crying shame that there's no prospect of a Linux port becoming available.
January 27th, 2013
@automaticslim on its default B+W conversion it might sound strange but the sky has a slight pinky grey tinge to it!! Must get eyes tested!! I've ;looked at the presets in PS and the high contrast bluie filter is my favourite as the sky and land almost ,erges apart from the trees and the horizon on either side of the tree. I will stick it in a vacant album slot a little later, have kid duties calling me! Thanks for your comments and fave on the Track through the trees shot, sometimes when I take a shot I do do with certain people in mind, that one was with you in mind!
January 27th, 2013
Aw, thanks Sean! As for seeing colours in monochrome images, that's two of us who need to see our opticians then. Absolute murder for spot retouching sessions!
January 27th, 2013
Great, simple, even stark, composition Sean. It works really well.
January 27th, 2013
FAV! This is just perfection. Love the subtle color changes from snow to sky. Composition is fabulous and I love the simplicity of this shot!
January 27th, 2013
Great shot - I took some like it but the sky was such a dull pale grey that it looked more like a blank screen. The hint of colour is smashing
January 27th, 2013
I think you must have captured this tree now in all weather conditions. I'm really wondering what a collage would look like. Wouldn't it be great to see this spot throughout the year? Nice picture!
January 27th, 2013
this is a really cool shot Sean and sounds like a great day. love the pastel blue sky
January 27th, 2013
wonderful
January 28th, 2013

Okay, I LOVE this one. . .the b&w is nice, too. . .but this one is the fav.
January 28th, 2013
I too am a fan of negative space, and I think you placed the trees perfectly.
January 28th, 2013
So simple, so beautiful.
Went to see Django last night and totally agree with you. Not really sure it needed QT and his Aussie mates at all.
January 28th, 2013
I love the simplicity of this shot.
January 28th, 2013
Stunning shot.
January 29th, 2013

February 10th, 2013
FAV! This is fantastic -- I'm sorry I didn't get to see it originally but I was just joining 365 and wasn't yet following you.
October 13th, 2013
@jyokota Thank you Junko. There is really no need for your apology, but I am so happy that you like this photo. I think it is my favourite of the 100,000+ photos i have in my archive, so when I have someone else say something good about it it is very satisfying.
October 13th, 2013
Gorgeous, Sean, I'm glad to have seen this. I like this and the mono version equally. The subtle pastels in the sky are beautiful here.
