A very busy day today so I have reverted to the January list and photographed something blue, my Levis.
I can remember as a teenager how cool 501s were, and how desperate I was for a pair.
Back in the early 80s I seem to recall that they were very expensive. In Summer 82 I got a job at Loughborough's Berni Inn, and worked at weekends while I was studying for my A levels. In the summer months I covered peoples holidays so I managed to earn a few quid, and that was when I go my first pair of 501s!! Needless to say, I made a few mistakes in the fashion department as well!!
Having gone up a few dress sizes since the early 80s, on a £ per square metre of fabric basis I get great value out of a pair of Levis today!!
The boys and I are looking forward to Rebecca returning form her girlie ski weekend later tonight. It is alright having a lads weekend, but nothing green has been eaten, and I don't sleep well when Rebecca is away, so I'm knackered!!!
I like it! When Levi’s first became popular when I was in school, people would try to grab the red tag and yank it off. I guess trying to steal them and collect them was considered cool. You always had to protect your backside, especially go up the stairs. I have no idea how anyone could put hard enough to get them to rip off though. I don’t know if people were ever successful very often or just enjoyed trying.
Haha - not eaten anything green - that made me chuckle! When I'm away Roy survives on toast and peanut butter I think, despite there being vegetables and meals in the freezer! I like your Levi story, I only had my first pair of Levi's last year .... (always was a bit behind the crowd!)
@gphelps5 Haha, Rebecca (then my girlfriend, now my wife) bought me a Sony Walkman for Christmas, and I wore out several tapes, and boy did those things eat batteries!!
Very cool shot, Sean. Red tag 501s were the height of cool when I was a teen in the 1970's. For some reason, I always ended up with the orange tag Levis. Finally got a pair of red tag 501s and to my surprise, they did not instantly make me cool like I expected them to - lol!
Nice shot! I love 501's, having the same sentiments but I find them hard to find nowadays. In the 1990s I went to the USA for the first time and was amazed about how cheap I could get them over there. Now they tell me they only sell 'wide-butt-jeans'.
