Berlin~12 by seanoneill

Berlin~12

While we were in Berlin, we took a trip out to the Olympic Stadium.

This is the stadium that held the 1936 "Jesse Owens" Olympics.

It was painstakingly renovated for the 2006 World Cup, and is an incredible place.

It is a long S Bahn/Bus trip ouit from central Berlin, but if you are ever there, take the time to go, it is an architectural masterpiece.

I would love to go to a football match or athletics event there.

This one looks nice large.
Fav. Fantastic photo and use of symmetries

Great shadow!

So cool and I love how you've processed this - it has a kind of 1930s feel, or maybe that's just because of the architecture... but I like it anyway. Fav

Very cool shot. The B&W really shows off the structure and shape. Love the balance/symmetry. It has such a space age look to it.

I just finished reading a book about a WWII POW camp survivor, Louie Zamperini. He ran track at the '36 Olympics.

And Mack Robinson grew up here in Pasadena, CA. We have a memorial to him and his brother, Jackie.
Mack came in 2nd behind Owens in the 200m dash.

It's so interesting to see where they competed.

For me, this is sort of like puzzle pieces, falling into place. Thank you. :-)

Great perspective - I recall being here prior to renovation... it was dismal. it was a strange feeling standing there and remembering what took place all those years ago.
