While we were at Notre Dame in Paris we spotted this man, feeding flocks of sparrows out of his hand.
We have started a new tradition this year. Rebecca has prepared an Advent Calendar where every day we all have to do something. Feel free to join in.
3rd December 2013. Give £1 to a charity. I have just donated £10 online to Shelter, a UK based charity for the homeless. Those of you who follow me will know how much I care about the plight of the homeless from my regularish posts of homeless people.
oh i fav'd this ------------just so wonderful -----------i have always loved feed the birds tuppence a bag ------------------------I donate monthly to Vision Australia and Cancer Council and will pop some money in the salvos when at the shop tomorrow -------i always do anyway :)
@annied Thank you Annie, and good on you for your charitable donations. We all have our special causes and I think it is good for the soul to help anyone in a less fortunate or even similar position to ones self.
We support The Salvation Army, who do similar work to Shelter. Christmas is such a desperate time for so many folk. Made worse by forecast of cold weather. I wish there was something to be done for the thousands of Syrian refugees who are completely blameless for their awful condition.
@gooner46 Thanks Chris, that is good of you, the SA do such good work. I couldn't agree with you more about the Syrian refugees, I will spare you the detail, but I have done my own little bit to put a smile on some Syrian refugee childrens faces recently. Such a sad situation.
@seanoneill Well done, Sean. Perhaps you should tell us what we can do to bring some cheer to the refugees. One feels so helpless and can't always be sure which organisation to trust.
Great image Sean, his expression suggests to me that this is just 'what he does' he feeds the birds because he can and because it helps them, his charitable act if you like.
Fave for me Sean...love the subject & the wonderful capture of all these little birds on this guys hand.....birds in flight too...he looks very serious.....obviously loving this!
You put your money where your mouth is Sean!!
Super candid capture, Sean. Rather than sell on e-bay etc. we have given a lot of quite valuable items this week to charity shops, and some very nice books, sale of which goes to the Phillipines disaster fund.
Wonderful capture! Both man and birds are very interesting. Great idea about the Advent tradition. You will have to share more of what the days bring you.
wow. this is gorgeous. I love the contrast - and for me its actually the man who grabs my attention - not so much the birds.. (thats a compliment) i love it
Fav - love this Sean and the sentiment behind it too, I've support Oxfam and a guide dog. We thankfully don't have a huge problem with homelessness here, but I always find it shocking when I go "south" to a city . It breaks my heart that in the 21st century we have people living without what I call basic human needs, shelter, food and water... See I'm starting on a rant here...... Last time I was in Edinburgh I bought a homeless man a meal and spoke to him for a bit. There's no way he was a professional either- late at night in the freezing cold, makes me so grateful

Well done for bringing up the issue.
You put your money where your mouth is Sean!!
What a splendid idea for advent - the true spirit of Christmas.
