This is a shot from Newark Market Place of a great old traditional butchers shop. It is great to see a place like this thriving in this day and age of convenience and supermarkets open almost 24/7. Our lunch consisted of bacon from this shop and some great bread from a market stall. I hope to pop back over to Newark sometime soon, there is so much more to see.
We have an excellent butcher in East Leake, he is a good friend called Tony. Always a friendly smile and wants to chat, always a very personal service. I am just about to go up and collect some thick cut sirloin steak for dinner with friends tonigh, and have been thinking of plucking up courage to ask if I can take some photos of him at work.......
He would love it, free advertising!! Great picture and agree about traditional shops. Hate Tesco's meet and veg but its just too convenient for me to shop there.
Great shot, dramatic sky, and the angle emphasises the sign. Funny you should say about the butchers, I've been thinking of asking the same of the blacksmiths at Staunton, but bit nervous about it.
@cazla@kwind I've just asked him, he said no problem. Will do so in the next few weeks hopefully. You should go for it Caz, especially if you know the guy.
Great shot of a lovely building , I like the composition here. We also used to but our bacon here, they have their own smoke house and the smell as you go in the shop is wonderful!
Beautiful B&W image. I like the details of the building and street life. You should definitely ask Tony for a photo. I'm sure he would be very flattered!
The corner shop - love it. . Long live the local shop! You can tell the character of a town from its local shops and if it doesn't have anything other than three big supermarkets it doesn't have any character!
