Buxton ~ 4 by seanoneill

Buxton ~ 4

This plaque is just to the right of teh Opera House doors in Buxton.

It s dedicated to Frank Matcham who designed many theatres around the end of the 19th century, including the London Palladium and London Coliseum, as well as the Hackney Empire.

In total, it is thought that he designed 80 plus theatres and was probably worked on at least as many again.

One of the great things about 365 is that it makes me inquisitive. Before 365 I would never have thought to take this photo, let alone find out a bit more about the person the plaque is dedicated to. Thanks to 365, I have discovered that there is a society dedicated to Frank Matcham's work. Here is a link to their web page. I doff my cap to them!

What an amazing man! Love your rendering of the plaque. You are right, Sean, 365 pushes you to find out about people and things, it's a joy! Enjoy Brighton and your course - sounds interesting - where? :)

@ivan I'm staying at the best western at Bramber, then we are in various unknown locations east and west of Brighton I think on Monday and Tuesday before a dawn shoot and morning in the classroom on Wednesday. I'm currently debating whether to travel down on Sunday evening or Monday am.

How right you are - we do tend to want to find out and share information on things we photograph and post on 365, so it's a great learning experience as well as a great way to get feedback and 'meet' other photographers. This is a lovely capture, and very interesting to know about Mr Matcham!

Yes, 365 is a great learning experience... and I am concerned that of this moment I have nothing to upload and no ideas! Maybe I need to follow your lead and upload as and when. I love this shot.. oddly pleasing. I can't analyse why! Composition, yes; tonal range, of course, texture thanks to your processing choices.... yet it seems to be more than the sum of its parts! If it were mine I would be almost pleased with it .... but dissatisfied with being unable to read the plate bottom right! Or do I need a new pair of specs? Fav, anyway!
