A very important part of village life in East Leake is the South Notts Number 1 Bus. It runs from our nearest town, Loughborough, to our nearest city, Nottingham and we are kind of in the middle.
It is also an important part of my family history.
My Uncle Alan was a driver for them in the 1970s, and for several years they safely got my two boys to school and back. In 1983 Rebecca and I caught the South Notts Number 1 to a steakhouse on the outskirts of Nottingham for our first proper date. The Steakhouse is long gone, but the bus route and the romance still endures.
For decades they were an independent company, but several years ago they were bought by Nottingham City Transport, who have kept the route going, invested in new vehicles but kept the old colours mostly.
This shot was taken on our daily walk, and you may well have to put up with one or two more shots of the South Notts bus!
This is a rare shot because the route is currently diverted after it leaves our village towards Loughborough so rarely travels this bit of road at the top of Woodgate.
South Notts bus gets a fav from me. We went to Quorn 18 months ago on the great central. There was a bus display. Hubby saw a south notts bus like he remembered going to school on in the late 80s.
We’ve been talking about busses. We see them, some single decker, some double decker while on our walk but I have never seen one passenger on any of the busses. I feel sorry for the driver all on his own but I suppose he’s glad he’s still employed. Great capture as it comes over the hill. As @humphreyhippo says we always remember the numbers of our school bus!
