Constance, I like the way the two men are dressed differently, one all wrapped up in a hoodie hat and gloves and the other almost in spring time clothes. The contrast between the players matches the contrast between the pieces.
Great angle. I always enjoy stopping to watch people play with the huge chess set. I like how you captured the guy on the right holding his bag of See's candy from across the square. It's like a story within a story.
Love this shot. There's a group of guys that always have chess games going in an uptown park here in CLT. I don't know why I never considered taking a photo ~ till now. :)
Bizarre - giant chess! Fun capture. Finally got round to googling Abigail Washburn and listening to some tracks - great sound - her banjo playing is gorgeous and love her vocals - her latest album sounds really interesting too with the range of musos she's got on it. I realise I've actually already heard her a bit as I've got an Uncle Earl CD that I bought last year and enjoyed - must dig that out again - I buy so many CDs I struggle to listen to them all properly!
I do love my small town but I sometimes envy your energetic city and ample street life. The closest thing I'd get to this shot would be the pawn shop. I really like this shot and have come back to it several times.
Big chessboards are great props :) I did a wedding shoot a few months back and the venue had a supersized chess board. I got the bride in white to use the black queen to take the groom in black's white king. Checkmate, mate! :)
