Do you know how hard it is to get the water company to turn your water blue? After weeks and weeks of cajoling and prodding, asking and threatening, they agreed to do it for 30 minutes. I was ready with my spoon and camera.
Just kidding, I was stuck for ideas since I was stuck in the house (long story) so I figured I would do a shot that is fairly mandatory as far 365 goes anyway, the spoon splash...a variation of this shot caused a lot of grief on here about 10 months ago as someone felt someone else was copying them, since the photos were put up mere days apart....a pretty heated discussion thread ensued and resulted in one user stopping their project for a while. They eventually came back and everything got smoothed over so all's well that ends well, right? Anyway just wanted to try it out and see if I could get a decent shot.
Critique welcomed and encouraged!
I personally believe that a persons's interpretation of the subject is, most times, more important and more... learn more
I hear food coloring is an easier way to get blue water. But what do I know? Hey...just to give you some forewarning, I think I'll copy you today. Although, I'll be attempting this same shot with my fancy vending machine P&S to see if I can achieve the same affect you captured here.
Disclaimer: if my photo turns out better, I will claim you preemptively copied me.
Just kidding?? What do you MEAN, just kidding? I was about to get on the line and get blue water of mine own pumped in, and now you say you're kidding?? ;) Excellent shot - I like the added difficulty factor of the spoon. I should try some water someday. I hope I can get pink water though. Pink is my signature color.
@jasonbarnette PS is even easier than food coloring! I will allow you to claim I pre-emtively copied you.....I wouldn't want you to look un inspired to your loyal subjects, you know!
@beautifulthing You should! Any post processing program that has layers should let you make it any color you want and keep the spoon the same with a layer mask!
@shadesofgrey Yeah...no luck with this. The P&S wouldn't focus well enough on the spoon and DOF was so limited that literally nothing was in focus. They have limits, and I'm thinking water drops is one of them.
This is a very cool shot- especially with the water. Sadly, although it may be a fairly mandatory shot for 365, I have no interest in taking one! I guess it's my turn to start a controversy- 365 shots you're supposed to take but refuse to! I did try to get water splashing on a head of broccoli once, but I wasn't satisfied with the results, so no more water shots-with or without spoons- for me (o:
@olivetreeann Aaah, don't be sad about! I tend to go to splash shots when I can't think of anything else. I hadn't tried a spoon yet so I figured why not, the light in my house sucks anyway! I think you have spurred me to create a discussion thread...will look to see if anyone has done it and go from there!
I saw this after I listened to the Water Dept talk to me about what would happen in extreme weather. So in hot dry summers they can easily turn the water green for you.

This is great, BTW!
