"Lion's Tooth"

Yup, that's what they are called in Germany; "Löwenzahn" - Lion's Tooth. And as far as I can tell, the English word "dandelion" has the same meaning, as it's derived from its French name "dent-de-lion", Lion's Tooth. Languages, and the way they are connected, is a fascinating thing, isn't it? :-)

@bkbinthecity : Thank you. :-) Yes, but I'm still wondering why they got that name. They actually don't resemble a lion's tooth, don't they? lol

...which is not called dent de lion anymore in French (Wipikedia says it's also used, but I've never ever heard about it!), but pissenlit (which means pee-in-bed, in old French, due to its diuretic properties). Funny that in many languages the lion's tooth name has been kept, but not in French, isn't it?! Love the softness of your pic!

@nyusha @shadowdancer Apparently dent de lion comes from the curved shape of the leaves :-)

These are so pretty! They remind me of the flashlight-wands the kids get at amusement parks.

@scatcat : This is really interesting! My dictionary said both "dent-de-lion" and "pissenlit" (love the word but OMG, who came up with that?! lol). Here in Germany, we also call them "Pusteblume" which can be translated as "blow flower".
@kloud @notsorandompics @4stories @ruthmouch @kchuk @eryck @myautofocuslife @mastermek @nyusha @calm @sueh @sueh @peacerebel : Thank you very much for your comments! :-)

@shadowdancer blow flower is a much more poetic name than the French one, indeed! :-))

@scatcat : lol, yes! But the French name is so much funnier! :-))
