high key rose by shannejw

high key rose

playing around with artistic choices and exposures for the B&W bookclub week 4 - http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/21184/bw-book-club-week-4-feb-17-23. This is high key using the EV settings (it's at +2 EV) to turn a peach coloured rose into something soft and delicate. It was an interesting one to get as soft as I wanted so I've played with components to get a desaturated layer with the detail I wanted, but had to use the curves to get it softer. That was then overlaid onto the original shot and sepia tones added and blurring of the edges with a eraser brush onto a darker layer. I've also overlaid a texture layer (actually a paving slab) to give me some more textures to this.

Thank you for looking and commenting - you're all superstars.
very very nice Shanne! :)

@jannaellen 99% of what I do doesn't have layers, even when it would improve photographs - but this challenge this week is all about artistic choices in b&w and processing, so I was embracing the challenge

I love the soft texture and grainy feel, Shanne. You maintained the core details of the flower, and it gives the viewer a lot to look at. Wonderful picture!

This is so dreamy. Wonderful processing - great that you shared how you did it too. I so often wonder how people have processed their photos but feel I shouldn't ask in case they'd rather not share trade secrets :0)
