The Groatie Hoose, Tankerness House Gardens

Back to my Kirkwall vintage post cards theme! This summerhouse is reputed to have been built from the ballast of Pirate Gow's ship, Revenge. Gow was captured in Orkney in 1725 and later hung in London. The Groatie House was moved from its original location to Tankerness House Gardens a few years ago to ensure its long term survival .
