The sun sets as we head home after an evening dog walk, but this was taken during an early walk. At this time of the year the sun is more likely to be dropping behind the horizon as we are outward bound, and dusk has fallen by the time we return, or even darkness if we have been delayed or maybe I haven’t been very vigilant at clock-watching.
This always feels like the worst time of the year to be dog walking, probably because the warmth and lighter evenings of summer and early autumn are still a recent and vivid memory, in contrast with the mud and early darkness that coincides with the clocks going back an hour in late October. Personally I would sacrifice that extra hour of morning daylight in favour of a longer day-lit evening. But then I suppose more morning dog walks would be in darkness.
Within weeks I will have settled into a routine of clipping flashing collar lights onto the dogs, donning my trusty head torch, and heading out into the dark countryside as a matter of course, but at the moment winter gloom stretches before me, at least during the working week. Let’s hope for some weekends of winter sunshine and long dog walks, maybe, just maybe, followed by a cosy pub lunch.
Stunning evening sky, love the way you have positioned the sun. I never walk in the evening, I think I would lose Saski and never find her again! The lure of the pheasants in the wood would be too much. Fav for this shot, beautiful
What a beautiful sky. Winter sunshine can be lovely, I love the crisp cold mornings where the skies are so blue still. And cosy pubs are defiantly a good thing! ;)
Nice colours!
I agree this is the worst time for dog walking!
