Posting again after a busy couple of weeks. Just back from a walk with the dogs, and we opted for a route up the Hill, to avoid the long wet grass in the fields following an earlier thunderstorm – thanks to rabbits much of the Hill is close cropped turf. We were taken by surprise by these cows, or strictly speaking, heifers. Every year five cows are released onto the Hill to graze the grasses, which controls the thistles and nettles, allowing wildflowers to flourish. The dogs stayed close to me, as we skirted the bottom of the Hill to avoid the heifers, which were enjoying the view from the top., but the heifers decided to introduce themselves – I looked over my shoulder top find them right behind us. This was too much for Tia, who rushed at them barking before returning to me, as we climbed a stile (or in the case of the dogs, escaped through a dog-gate) to return home by a different route.
