We travelled north to Jasper, and the only route was along 160 miles of the dramatic Icefield Parkway through the Rockies. It is recommended that you allow a full day to travel the route, allowing time to stop at the scenic locations and take in the views. @shepherdmanswife and her camera would need every available moment that a full day would offer, but unfortunately, having seen her father off on an early flight home, we started the day in Calgary, 105 miles south east of Lake Louise, the start of the Parkway. Nevertheless we arrived in Lake Louise by 10.00am, purchased our National Park Pass for the second part of our Rockies trip, and started the journey to Jasper.
Within minutes we passed Hector Lake and immediately stopped. This was a five-star Rockies Mountain reflection, confirmed by the number of breathless “Awesome…”s (or to be more precise “Arsome…”) that we heard from the surrounding Canadians and Americans. And it was.
Instant Fav! Such stunning scenery! When we drove along the Parkway it was thick fog! The coach driver kept saying there was a glacier to the left or right but we had to take his word for it! Now I know what I missed!
Super sharp reflections making a wonderful shot. We drove the Calgary to Jasper route some years ago and took days as we stopped in our camper overnight at places, by chance we bought an excellent detailed map on our first stop which listed all the scenic sites, which was invaluable. Just as well I wasn't doing 365 then or it would have taken twice as long!
