Howe Sound, a fjord with Vancouver and the mouth, and Squamish, where this was taken, at the inland end. I was surprised to find fjords on the west coast of Canada, but everyone else that I spoke to was more surprised that I was surprised. The Squamish locals call this area The Beach, although there doesn’t actually seem to be any sand. It’s just an open area with views across the fjord, but the views are magnificent, with a backdrop of the snow-capped peaks of the Coastal Mountains. They were something else that fooled me before we started planning the trip. My logic was as follows. The Rockies are in Western Canada. Vancouver is in Western Canada. There are mountains close to Vancouver. The mountains close to Vancouver must therefore be the Rockies. Well, I wasn’t far out. Just 500 miles. And I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed my times exploring both mountain ranges.
Welcome to my home! Not Squamish in particular but I live in Port Coquitlam which is in the Lower Mainland and places like this are all 'nearby'. Great shot. I love the detail in the driftwood in the forefront.
