This gentleman was engrossed in a local rugby match that we both went to yesterday. I am a late convert to rugby, becoming interested just seven years ago, during a camping /walking weekend with friends. After a hike in the Shropshire countryside my friends were keen to return the village where we were staying, to find a pub to watch England play in one of the World Cup games. I wasn’t particularly bothered, but at least there would be beer, sandwiches and good company. Thanks to an exciting game, and patient mates who explained what was happening and why, I was drawn into the game, watched the remaining World Cup games with enthusiasm, and since then have made several trips to see Leicester Tigers, as well as our annual trip to this local game. I wouldn’t say that I am passionate about the game, but I thoroughly enjoy the games that I do see, and am just about getting to know the rules of Rugby Union. My step-daughter and son in Law in Leeds, promised to take me to a Rugby League game one day, but then granddaughters came along, and they are much more interesting….
My husband got me to watch our American football. Never been to a live game though. Some of the characters at the pro games would really be worth photographing. BUt for pure character this guy is wonderful.
Great subject and portrait. Isn't it fun to learn how to enjoy a new sport. I've got a new appreciate for basketball both from our University and 6th/2nd grade ball. I enjoy it very much now! Glad you are having a similar experience!!
