Time for some bird photos from our trip to the Farne Islands, with the object of the exercise being to see and photograph puffins. We were dropped off onto a large lump of rock sticking out of the North Sea of the North East Coast, clambering out of the open boat somewhat precariously as it rose and fell with the swell, and we ascended the stone steps. At the top of the steps, were hundreds of puffins, all very confident, and close to the path. The only thing easier so spot than the puffins was the myriad of 400 and 500mm lenses, which were a problem. The photographer had to stand a short distance away, which meant that those of us with perfectly ordinary lenses suited for close ups of nearby puffins, got in the way. Even folks using phone-cameras had an advantage. I did like the clown-like puffins, but I have to admit, that once you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all…
