Over the past month the cereal crops in the fields around our home have ripened, turning from green to brown, the leaves the first to turn, creating splashes of yellow among the fading seed heads. Traditionally the ripe crops are described as golden brown, but to me they are all now biscuit brown, whether wheat, oats or barley. In fact to be more precise, they are shortbread brown, a sort of pale brown, verging on yellow. On a warm day the sun warms the grain, and you can smell the malty scent of the ripening seeds. It will only be a week or so before the harvest commences, and the peaceful countryside once again becomes the factory floor of the agricultural industry.
Wonderful close up. Here all harvesting of the cereal crops is done for weeks already, I think due to the heat we had and still having ( 27°C outside still at 23.00h was 38 during the day. Far to hot)
