Driving across North Wales, saw this rising above the roadside hedgerow, and both @shepherdmanswife and I simultaneously shouted “PHOTO OPPORTUNITY!” and I swerved onto a convenient field gateway. @shepherdmanswife crossed the road for a better view, but I spotted a footpath sign, and fought through the overgrown hedge to find a stile into the field. An image of a lone tree invites a story of the last survivor of an ancient forest, growing proud above the landscape, maybe the tree where medieval communities met to discuss local issues, the so called Gar Tree. In practice I suspect that this tree is merely the sole survivor of sheep grazing.
