Millennium Wood by shepherdman

Millennium Wood

Another wet walk this morning, with the added “attraction” of a distinctly brisk wind that did its best to remove my hat from my head. Despite the weather there were quite a few dog walkers out and about – those who had no doggy duty to perform had very sensibly stayed by the fireside. By the time that we got to “Millennium Wood” on the edge of Croft village, the rain had stopped and the watery sun was trying to brighten the countryside. Millennium Wood was once the village cricket field, dotted with mature trees which must have made fielding interesting. It was grazed periodically by sheep and cows, before being adopted by the Woodland Trust who have recently planted more trees. The field is still grazed by bullocks, or more commonly sheep, from time to time, hence the well maintained water trough, which Tia never fails to take advantage of.
An interesting history and photo.

Really interesting history - do like these skies - went on faith that the rains would ease? Rain and wind don't make great walking conditions! Brave!

It does look rather dark and cold and probably wet underfoot here!

Very dark and foreboding. But I love the way the sun is trying to shine!
