The quarry is pretty much as deep as it can be without the sides being too steep - expansion will involve removing the overburden to expose more granite. 20 years ago a previous company applied to quarry Croft Hill, at the top of pur Lane, where the rock protudes through the turf. The application was withdrawn after a public outcry, The current company has no such proposals.
