I spotted this Llama in a field yesterday and so took my 70-300 zoom lens to get a shot.
He spotted me and came trotting over until he more than filled the frame. I couldn't move back because I would be stepping into the road into traffic, and every time I moved along the fence, he just followed me. I can only guess that passers by give him food!
Although technically not a good composition, I just couldn't resist his expression and show him to you!
I am smiling at this so much; I went down to visit our local alpacas today, had the perfect shot lined up of one the babies and along came a dog walker; they moved in an instant to warn off the dog. They are very good guards themselves and apparently some farmers use them to protect the lambs from foxes.
It is a lovely full frame shot, he looks so curious
@claireuk I often have my dogs with me when I'm out taking macro shots down at ground level.....lovely sparkly droplets, spiders, insects, flower etc, and what do they do? Bound over and stand on top of what I was trying to photograph! Bless em
OMG he totally looks like he has a smug little smile on his face...yes, NOW I am ready for my close-up! LOL This is awesome, especially with the preceding pic showing "the moment" he caught sight of you!
This is one critter I just don't know enough about so I'm never comfortable around them. In all the books I've read that includes a Llama, it ends up spitting on someone! I watched at a sale once where this idiot was irritating a Llama and the poor thing finally had to spit at the guy to get him to back off. I cheered. I think the photo's great by the way. All in all, if things had gone badly you would have had to clean your lens more than your face... :)
Love the big eyes and eyelashes. A while ago a Llama spit on my friend. She wasn't impressed. I was rolling on the ground laughing. I still can see it.
This is such a fine close-up! I was trying to draw a llama the other day and didn't get the eyes right. Now I see from your photo how wide set their eyes are.
I swear, there's a smirk on those llama lips. Wonderful up-close capture of this intriguing beast. (His ears were up when you took this pic so you were good yet. It's when they lay back that trouble's brewing.)
The photo and all the anecdotes are making me smile! I'll add one more to the thread.
When we moved in, our neighbors had three llamas, which we dubbed The Llama Ladies. The Llama Ladies kept a very close watch on everyone who walked by. Very attentive! Ears locked on target!! They would amble over to the fence when I walked the dogs, and would give the dogs a great big SNUFF! The dogs, raised in the suburbs, never quite knew how to interpret this. Happily, no spit was ever exchanged.
