from Bow Summit, on the Icefield Parkway towards Jasper from Banff. @shepherdman put a photo of me taking this shot @shepherdman/365/2014-10-09 He tells the story of how the viewing platform was so full of rowdy tourists, that we continued up along the track and found a rocky outcrop all on our own, except for the ground squirrels and pica.
If you look closely you can see the Icefield Parkway winding it's way through the mountain pass.
Oh, I spent my hippie youth in Banff. The hostel, the bears, the visit from a moose in the middle of the night. A lovely shot that emphasizes the purity of the the lakes there.
Yes we had exactly the same problems on our drive, a coach load of tourists photoing each other against the backdrop rather than the view itself! Your shot has inspired me to look out our shots of these places. This one has the look of the shape of a dogs head.
Fabulous image, I have the self same photo but taken in late November in 1996, thick snow everywhere and not a tourist in sight. To this day I can remember the utter silence created by that blanket of snow and only our foot prints disturbing it. Thanks for reminding me of a wonder expoerience...FAV FAV FAV
@judithdeacon Thank you so much for the fav Judith, but it didn't show. Would you mind pressing the * again please:) I'd love to see it all covered in snow but didn't dare leave it until November in case the road was closed!
Isn't this area amazing?! A photographer's and hiker's paradise. You are smart to be there after the crowds Summer. Enjoying your photos from the park.
Fabulous shot; looks so different from when we were there in June. We toured BC by train and coach, too terrified to drive on the wrong side of the road.
@princessm we were terrified too, but decided it was the only way to travel to give us the freedom to stop to see these sites. It wasn't as bad as we thought it would be because the hire car was an automatic so didn't have to think about gear changing and the roads in Canada are so much wider and have less traffic than our roads. I would not hesitate to drive in Canada or USA
