Posting 3 photos tonight, all SOOC. Pulled the Canon Speedlight flash out because parents-to-be wedding in 2 weeks and photographer is not in the budget. So guess who's taking pics!!! And you guys know I'm all about outdoors and natural light, so this flash stuff is a stretch for me. My goal is to work with the flash for the next 2 weeks and get as much help and critique as possible! Be harsh!!!
Standing directly over him with flash at 45 degree angle. Seemed like all pics, no matter which output setting, were all too harsh with the lighting or too dark. Did not feel like I could get a good balance. Again, composition not taken into consideration, only lighting.
I agree, this one has nice lighting on the dogs face. I did a wedding in the summer. It was supposed to be outdoors so I said I'd do it then it poured rain so it got moved indoors were the lighting was really poor. Ty e only thing that saved the pictures was using a very high ISO because the Minister did not allow me to use a flash. It might be a good idea to test some really high ISO shots to see how high you can go and still get acceptable result.
Very cute, I like the lighting too. I am with you when it comes to the flash too. I much prefer natural light. Another consideration may be to hire a great lens on the day. If you get a really fast lens that goes down to say 2.2 or lower, if you shoot wide open you won't need to use such a high ISO as well. Good luck too. I haven't had the nerve to do a wedding yet :)
I am struggling with flash and the other day I looked up some instructions. Really liked this one though I haven't really had time to try it out as I didn't have my lens I needed home. http://www.ehow.com/how_6789138_learn-flash-photography.html
I also tend to prefer high ISO over flash, but no doubt there will be some shots that you'll probably have little choice. Your experiments are looking great! For warmer light I like to use a piece of amber gel, and sounds like you've already tried it but bouncing the flash off ceiling or wall can work nicely...although beware walls/ceilings other than white as the reflected light can pick up the wall/ceiling color and wreck the image. Look forward to more images!
