Eye of the brighter Tiger

OK. I took my phone upstairs and compared it to my computer screen, and my computer screen is definitely much brighter than my phone. So I assume my computer screen's calibration is off. So I've increased the exposure here, and I think it will more accurately reflect what I originally saw when I posted it. The catchlight in her eye is very tiny, but it shows up better when "properly" (read - the way I saw it) exposed. It's still much smaller than I'd normally like, but with the exposure turned up, the eye is better,tho maybe not ideal. Again, critique STILL requested! And thank you all for the comments from the previous shots! Your comments again would be most appreciated!
Looks much better. The details can be seen much better now.

Close up and personal, for sure! Very nice!

Amazing what a bit of titillating can do - much clearer!

Great close up detail and textures

I agreed with the comments on the other photo and this one is much better, but the eye is still a bit on the dark side. I think you have got the focus on just below the eye which is why it isn't quite as sharp as it could be. You could alter this again post processing in Photoshop if you put a lasso around the eye and a 50 px feather and then lighten it on the curves. that should make it look clearer.

I believe every computer and every phone is going to read different. My mentor will mention something to me because he is viewing on his tablet and then when he looks on his computer he realizes that it is his tablet. You can frustrate yourself trying to make the perfect digital picture. I just try to take comments in to use for the next post.

@joansmor That is true, Joan. Enough people have commented on the darkness in several pics, so it might be time to take a second look. To be fair, my computer screen in the office is so bright, it's a great nightlight for the entire upstairs of my house. I probably should decrease the brightness at least a little. :-) I'm going to compare my computer at work as well to my phone, and I'm sure it will be a different comparison even to the one here at home. Thank you for your comments. I think a mentor is a great idea. How do you go about making that happen?

@onewing Thank you for that explanation of how to lighten the eye. I'll try that. I think the bottom line may be that this was just not the best shot. I have some where the eye is better, but I didn't like the composition as well. Probably should have looked at cropping one with the better eye, especially since the eye is pretty much supposed to be the focus. Thank you for helping me realize that!

Wonderful capture.

how to and wanting to are, of course, different. I rather like the bright fur with the mysteriously dark well of his eye.

Ah...much better! And I think I see a 'selfie' of you in her eye! :) Yes the monitor brightness got me for quite a while - especially when it came to printing. The picture looked fine on my monitor but when printed was a full stop and a half underexposed. Also the angle at which you view the monitor/laptop can also make a difference. I found a 'checkerboard shades of grey' graphic online that has 12 different shades of grey which you can display and if you can see a difference in all the tones of grey then the brightness and viewing angle is good. If any of them look the same tone or are not visible then something is off. Once I did that I only have to periodically check, or really only if I tinker with the monitor settings.

Well, there was a group started a while back and you asked one of them to help you. I only know of two one is @vignouse and one is @taffy but they may be able to help you with other names.

@icamera Do you have a link to the checkerboard graphic? I would love to see how that compares!

@ziggy77 Thank you!

@joansmor Thanks Joan!

@joansmor @shesnapped Hi Ashley and Joan...here's the original link to Part II of the mentoring process that Linda helped organize. You might check the list and see who is still active and see if they would be willing to serve as mentor. Or you could post to the general discussion thread and indicate what you would like to focus on with a mentor. I think that people would volunteer if they knew what you were looking to accomplish. Good luck!

Don't remember *exactly* where I pulled mine from, but if you Google "grayscale tones image" there will be several that come up and one that has 10 or more shades should do the trick
