Bucket list item. We've been trying to see the cherry blossoms in Washington DC at peak for the past 10 years but have always been about a week late. This year we finally hit it thanks to Scott @sbolden for mentioning last week that this was the weekend to look for it. We were not disappointed! They are breathtaking!!! There were approximately 10 zillion other people there who apparently agreed. Kudos to the all the DC employees who managed traffic, pedestrians, mass transit, porta-potties and whatever else they had to manage to pull off the safety of that many people. Next year it might be worth considering bunking overnight with my brother who lives in the vicinity so we can get there for sunrise. Maybe there are not so many people on the Tidal Basin at that time????
@joansmor I think he's out there today, so hopefully we'll see his shots soon. He said something about sunrise, so maybe he gets some great expanses that are not crowded with people. All of my shots had a zillion people - and I'm not exaggerating by much. Kind of messes with the photo op, ya know?
I"ve heard about the cherry blossom in japan but not in Washington! It must have been so beautiful but fighting with the crowds to get this good photo!
@maggiemae The cherry trees in DC were a gift from Japan years ago, in the early 1900's. In fact, the first batch we got from them, about 2,000 of them, had to be burned because they were infested. The second batch of about 3,000 were good. It was a delicate situation from what I've read. Fascinating story tho.
Wonderful photo Ashley.I have quite a few cards from fellow amature radio operators in Japan and a lot of them have pictures of their beautiful cherry blossoms.
Hello Ashley, these blossoms look so perfect! And such a great depth of field. As your challenge partner I would like you to try panning again, since you weren't able to last time. I hope you'll be able to do it this time. Good luck!
Congrats on finally making it at the right time!
