The sun setting right behind the pilot house of one of the concrete ships at Kiptopeke the other night on our way home. Was just a beautiful night. Much needed therapy after a long and difficult week. Too bad none of the pelicans were flying thru the scene!
@frankhymus Any commentary on this one? The SOOC version was mostly the sun color and the rest in shadow. I increased the exposure on the ship and water just enough to pull in a little detail. The increased exposure plus a little increased contrast brought out the red highlights. The sky has been masked out of all adjustments. Did Noise adjustment first! Final adjustment was Sharpening, then threw it all back to LR (all previous adjustments were done in PS). Once it was back in LR, I increased the exposure globally to give it the final touch it seemed to need.
It seems to me to be an awkward mix of true silhouette and detail in the shadows. And you'll have to drop the SOOC term if you talk to me. :) Not sure how to improve it, but it doesn't really resonate with me as is.
I'm with Frank on this one - the photo lacks something. It doesn't resonate with me, either.
But, on the bright side, the textures are great with the waves and concrete.
@frankhymus@farmreporter I can't say I disagree with you guys. I did consider cropping in closer to just the pilot house, which I may revisit just to see, but then again, this may just be a shot that simply doesn't work. :-)
@shesnapped Noise Reduction in Lightroom/Camera Raw is considerably more capable and flexible than in big Photoshop, it does a much better job of preserving detail. I don't understand why Adobe hasn't ported some of the technology in the raw converter into the Noise Filter, but nothing has been done for several years. Usually the other way around...
@frankhymus That's a surprising fact! I'll definitely go back and look at that. As a rule, when I process my photos, I apply 25 Luminosity and accept the default 25 Sharpening in LR for each of my photos. I've never messed with it much beyond that. Good info to have!!
@shesnapped Yes, ACR is the same as the Lightroom Develop Module, rearranged a little. To tell the truth, I don't use LR. For me Bridge is fine for library work.
@frankhymus I've never used Bridge even tho it comes with the PS/LR subscription I have. The PS class I've been taking has certainly been talking about it and using it, and I definitely want to try it out!
@shesnapped Its use will interact not very pleasantly with the Library Module and the import function of LR. In fact you import into Bridge and as a separate function import back to LR, tedious. One of the nice things is that you can have TWO images open in the raw converter at the same time. One sponsored by pride and one sponsored by PS.
But, on the bright side, the textures are great with the waves and concrete.
