Secret Hitler Game Night by shesnapped

Secret Hitler Game Night

So the teenager-not-a-teenager had his buddies over to celebrate his 20th birthday. (WHAAAATTTTTT????) Had a fantastic time with all of them! We’ve played plenty of games thru the years, but this was the first time we’ve played Secret Hitler. The guys apparently play it online, but it’s an actual board game, and he received it as a gift from one of these boys.

The premise of the game is that the Liberals are out to kill off Hitler and/or prevent the Fascists from winning. You start by picking an envelope with your secret identity in it, either Fascist, Liberal, or Hitler. In a 7-player game, there are 4 Liberals, 2 Fascists, and 1 Hitler. In a 6-player game, there is only 1 Fascist, and all other numbers are the same. Once everyone knows their identity, everyone hides their eyes, turns their identity cards up to be seen, and the Fascists get to open their eyes and identify each other as well as see who Hitler is. All eyes stay closed while the identity cards are re-hidden from view, and then the game begins. Only the Fascists know the identity of the other players. Their job is to try to protect Hitler while getting enough Fascist cards to win the game. Everyone else is trying to figure out who the Fascists and Hitler are while also trying to get enough Liberal cards to win the game. And Hitler’s trying to figure out who’s on his side, and who’s out to kill him. Players can ask each other all kinds of questions, which are required to be answered, but lying is perfectly ok, and even expected!

This is such a psychological thriller! They played their first 2 games while I ran around and got some of the best photos! Their reactions were real and priceless! And the Nikon, which had been in my possession for barely 24 hours, performed admirably, especially considering that I was shooting in jpeg since I hadn’t figured out how to get it into Raw yet. The photos came out fantastic in the low light of night time - something I had given up even trying with my 70D. The combination of their reactions and the performance of the Nikon seriously brought tears to my eyes! I was SO grateful to have been able to catch it all, and the boys LOVED the shots!!! They coerced me in to playing with them (how awesome is it to be asked by a bunch of 20 year olds to join in!!), so I played 3 games with them. I ended up being Hitler in the first game, then a Fascist, and then a Liberal. Pretty lucky to have gotten to play each part considering there were 3 guys who ended up being the same identity each game.

I’ll post some more collages as I get them put together!

Haha. I love this game! :-D

And what better place to have teenagers than a house with toddlers. I'm really into the whole all generations together thing.

Sounds like a great evening...reminds me of my childhood. There just doesn't seem to be this kind of social interaction anymore...technology. Hearing of this instance where it's been reversed...pretty cool!
