While the babies spent the weekend with Mommy and Daddy, dh and I had some time to ourselves, so we took the new camera and lens to the zoo and gave it a workout. It performed admirably, but it also showed me my weaknesses, which I had been warned it would with that incredible sensor. That’s ok with me. I’m open to improvement!
My absolute favorite encounter was with this guy. We definitely connected, tho it may not have been as heart warming for him as it was for me! There’s no question I was grateful for the barriers that protected us from each other! We held gazes for a short bit, then I felt like I was invading his peace, and that just didn’t seem fair, so I put my camera away. But the moment stayed with me, and I’m glad I got my shot.
The connection is most definitely palpable. This majestic animal has his photo taken so often he could choose to ignore every camera he sees. He's seen them thousands of times. But, for some reason you were different, he held your gaze. I'd like to think the explanation lies in the last few sentences of your story. Maybe we humans make more of it than it is, I don't know.
What a magnificent lion and a beautiful photo! I just got a new camera lens (100-400) and also took it to the zoo to see if I was worth of being the new owner! I discovered I need to work out my arms and shoulders, but am in love with what the lens can do! It's very clear your experience was a satisfying one!
@alophoto Haha! This guy won 1st Place last night in camera club too. (Group B, Open Color, 10 submissions) He basically scored a numeric A- ... Had I gotten the shot during Golden Hour, he could have been a potential A+ .... Ah that golden hour ... how I miss the golden hour!
