This is Crummock water in the English Lake District. Did you know there is only one Lake in the Lake District? Bassenthwaite Lake near Keswick is the only one to use the work Lake in it's name, all the others are either 'waters', 'meres' or 'tarns'.
@maggiemae I think basically all the terms loosely mean 'body of water' so to put both Mere and Lake or Tarn and Lake together is like repeating yourself in a different way.
Lovely shot. This stretch of water is so often overlooked because Buttermere is close by - despite the fact that Crummock Water is bigger. Spent a good few holidays wandering around this area. I can even admit to having swum in Crummock once upon a time!
Well I hadn't realised that Shirley. I wonder why they avoided the word lake although I must admit that Coniston Water sounds much more romantic that Coniston Lake
