Yesterday we were at a friends daughters wedding. This is just as all the guests came out of the church gates after they had been cut open. It is tradition in this area, mostly in villages, that the gates of the church are tied while everybody is in the church. When they come out of church money is thrown out while the gates are cut open and the local children scramble for the money. There weren't a lot of children at this wedding because it was through the week and the kids were in school, but on a Saturday you can get 20-25 kids, depending on the village and who is getting married, all scrambling on the ground to pick the coins up. I used to love a good scramble when I was a kid. If there was a wedding in the village - we were there!! :)
So lovely to hear traditions like these are continuing and definitely sounds like fun for the children. I think they used to put a rope across the road where I grew up and money had to be handed over to pass. A very pretty wedding.
@2nutsinatree@annepann@gijsje@susanalena@elmay@cashew@cashew@peterlgrave Thank you all for your comets and interest in my photographs. @flowerfairyann Ann as a child we used to tie the gates then before he guest left the church area found out where the reception was going to be held and put the rope across the road, that way we caught those who hadn't thrown money at the gates. @terryliv Terry as I'm afraid it is frowned up on for adults to join in, although often if an adult see a child that is too shy or too little to join in or is getting pushed out by the bigger ones, they do pick up some of the money and give it to the little ones. Either that or put a foot on a coin and get the little one to pick it up. The groom is supposed to be the main one that is throwing the money but most of the male guest do so.
